WASHINGTON DC Posts

In our last "Presentation of the Day" for the week, we meet Bruce Macphail, the project manager for the American chapter of Clowns Without Borders. In his presentation (from PKN Washington D.C. Vol. 11) he discusses the CWB's mission to offer laughter and relieve suffering for all who live in areas of crisis, especially children.

We're trying something a bit different today, and instead of producing a few separate posts, we're creating a one-stop post with all of the day's news and interesting links. Do let us know what you think. Emanuele Fidone Presentations First off, of course, comes the presentations. As we've been doing lately, we've added two new presentations: Hear Emanuele Fidone cover key aspects of architecture as he shares his works (in Italian, from PKN Catania Vol. 10), or let Peter Harris guide you through the inner workings of zen (from PKN Waterville Vol. 6). And if you've been wondering just how global our presentations are, this page should clue you in -- we have 63 cities represented, with of course new cities sending us presentations every day. PKN Coruna Vol. 6 Posters And you do remember about our fantastic PKN poster Tumblr, right? Every single poster we receive from our global organizers goes up there, and today's additions includes posters/flyers for PKN Coruna Vol. 6, PKN Rockford Vol. 1, PKN Nishinomiya Vol. 12, and PKN Sacramento Vol. 17. Links There's also been some great PechaKucha chatter around the net, and here are a few links that we'd like to share today (and we'll be sharing more links like this on a regular basis, so keep the coverage coming):

Calendar Here's wishing you a fantastic weekend, and don't forget to check the PechaKucha calendar to find out what PechaKucha Night you can attend over the next few days (hint: we're in Cleveland, Ferrol, Guatemala City, Lausanne, Manizales, and Bandung tonight, and in Springfield, MO and Helsinki tomorrow).

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIJxm0z_SOA The video above from Voice of America offers up coverage for the most recent PechaKucha Night in Washington DC (last month's Vol. 16, with the presenters listed here). Yes, it's in Farsi, but there's still a lot to take in visually. As organizer Rouzita Vahhabaghai tells us, VOA has 40 million viewers around the world, so that's great coverage indeed.

PKN Washington DC + Inspire Japan

Washington DC will take part in the Global PechaKucha Day - Inspire Japan event on April 16, with the city's Vol. 15 happening at Ultrabar DC -- doors open at 18:30, and presentations will start at 19:30. You'll find more details, as well as the list of presenters with links, on the official event page.

Things are definitely calming down in PechaKuchaland in the days leading up to the start of 2011 -- the last PKN of the year was held on Christmas day in Nagoya -- but we'll be sharing lots of event reports throughout the week from recent PKNs. Above, a video report from PechaKucha Night in Washington DC Vol. 14, which was held in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden -- more details can be found on the official event page.

Here's a look at the recent PechaKucha Night in Washington DC Vol. 14 held at House of Sweden, with photos courtesy of Illimeter -- there's more to see in this Flickr photoset. And here's also a great write-up on the event, from the ReadysetDC website.

Following the announcement of next week's PechaKucha Night in Washington DC Vol. 14, here's a video report from last month's Vol. 13, which had the theme "Let's Talk Architecture." The video was put together by George Hanuschak.

PechaKucha Night in Washington DC Vol. 14 will be held next week (October 21) at the Embassy of Sweden, with the theme "Shaping Sustainable Cities of the Future." You can find more details on this special edition PKN -- as well as the list of presenters with links -- on the official event page.

Poster for PKN Washington Vol. 13

Washington's PechaKucha Night Vol. 13 is takes place next week (September 15), in conjunction with the AIA DC Architecture Week. The event will include a musical performance by David Schulman of Rhapsody B, and DJ Brien Watson, and you'll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page. Note that -- and something we encourage all PKN organizers to do -- one of the presentations from the PK site will be shown during the evening, in this case Gary Cheng's "Transformer Apartment."
