ÚSTÍ NAD LABEM Posts
MARCH 28, 2013
The look of this poster (from Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic) may appear a bit grim, but it's not designed without reason. PKN Ústí nad Labem organizer Tomáš Petermann chimes in with an explanation:
...this poster, made for the upcoming PechaKucha Night Ústí nad Labem Vol. 6 displays our theme: 'Polish Blood'. The poster was designed by Dušan Pohanka, with illustration by Patrik Antczak and follows the old Polish folk adage describing the Polish as people with 'dog's blood in their veins'. The presenters will discuss Polish character as well as other national elements.
PechaKucha night Ústí nad Labem Vol. 6 is coming next Tuesday, April 2.

JANUARY 10, 2013
The first PechaKucha Night of the year has not yet hit, but with many on the horizon it would appear that it's raining posters here at HQ. This poster hails from the Czech Republic city Ústí nad Labem and is for their Volume 6 evening coming up on the 22nd of January.
Using these elegant old-timey binoculars, objects will not only appear closer than they are, but we'll also be able to see them in glorious anaglyph 3D!

In their shared presentation (in Czech, from PKN Usti nad Labem Vol. 2), Marek Hudáč and Matyáš Fialka talk about what it's like being a 1st grade architecture student at the Technical University of Liberec, and describe the atmosphere of the school's huge studio. Presentations Lulu De Panbehchi believes that what is good for her is also good for film. As we discover in this presentation (from PKN Williamsburg Vol. 2), she experiments with different substances' effects in developing her photographs. Torben Jørgensen is an autodidactic actor struggling to apply skills, to make and be part of theatre projects. Listen (in Danish, from PKN Aalborg Vol. 9) to his amazing -- and courageous -- story. Posters There are two additions to the Tumblr blog today, starting with the poster pictured above, for next month's PKN Usti nad Labem Vol. 4. 20 Images on 20 Years in Japan, Street Art in Usti nad Labem, and Using the PechaKucha Format at School
Presentations Don Kratzer has lived in Japan for 20 years, and following the PK 20x20 format, he uses his presentation (from PKN Tokyo Vol. 95) to share what he's been up to all this time using one image for each year. In her presentation (in Czech, from PKN Usti nad Labem Vol. 2), Zofia Drut talks about her public and street art activities, that have been held in elevators, buses, markets, and any other public venue she's been able to use. Posters We have two new posters to share today on the Tumblr blog, starting with PKN Banja Luka Vol. 6, pictured above -- the event was held just over a week ago. The other addition is a second poster for the upcoming PKN Mendoza Vol. 6 -- see the lovely "moustache" edition we shared last month. Links We are often contacted by teachers and professors from around the world who are interested in using the PechaKucha format in their classes, and here's a great example of its use at the College of Charleston, and one that was inspired by the local PKN series.
Professor Jeanette Guinn says PechaKucha in an integral part of her course, Understanding Creativity. “The PechaKucha concept stretches students to be creative and expand their writing and public speaking skills,” she says. “You just can’t achieve that with a paper and a test.”
