Books for Syria

The crisis in Syria has been ongoing for about three years, and defenseless victims have often been the most dramatically affected.
Children are unable to go to school as well as enduring major psychological trauma and a loss of any sense of possession. In "Books for Syria" from PKN Sharjah Vol. 5Shada El Sayed introduces a program that addresses these issues by giving them books. A network of illustrators and authors, Books for Syria creates books for children to reinstill hope back into their lives.

About the City's Organizers

  • Maraya Art Centre Sharjah

    The Maraya Art Centre is a non-profit art space and cultural platform located in Al Qasba, Sharjah, supported by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), with the purpose to promote young artists from the Arab region, and from the international art scene. The Maraya Art Centre was officially launched in March 2010 as one of the UAE’s most spectacular venues for contemporary visual arts. Maraya Art Centre is a three-storey art centre established over 1500 square meters located in the heart of UAE’s cultural capital; and includes Maraya Art Gallery on the third floor, the Barjeel Art Foundation on the second floor, that is the private collection of Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi, and Maraya Community on the first floor for programs and educational activities.

  • Dana Al Sadek

    Dana AlSadek holds a MA in Law, Development and Globalization from London’s School of Oriental and African Studies and pursed a BA in Business Administration from the American University of Beirut. Dana currently works at the Maraya Art Centre, as a Public Programme Manager organizing art, design and educational events for Sharjah’s diverse community. She also has performed assistant curatorial roles with the planning and implementation of contemporary exhibitions and public programs working alongside guest curators, artists, filmmakers and arts educators. Alongside Dana’s role at the Maraya Art Centre and 1971 Design Space, she is a Global Shapers Dubai Hub member and has co-founded a Palestinian pop-up film festival called Reel Palestine.
