Their poster features a moody, atmospheric photo of the twilight sky. Groovy.

Sound Inspiration for Art, What We Eat, and Photos from San Sebastian
Presentations In Paula Alasad Asbell's presentation (from PKN Williamsburg Vol. 2), "sound mind" is not a reference to a psychological state, but refers instead to the source of the inspiration for her art: her favorite music and musicians. Tomas Popp uses his presentation (in Czech, from PKN Plzen Vol. 1) to take a closer look at what we eat, where it comes from, and how it affects us all. Posters We have two new posters on the Tumblr blog today, starting with PKN Portsmouth Vol. 12's "Earth" poster you see above, which continues this year's themed series (the previous two were for "Air" and "Fire"). The other poster is for PKN Louisville Vol. 9. Photos Here's a photo gallery [Flickr] for the recent PKN San Sebastian Vol. 10 (also known as PKN Donostia). Above, a look at the very happy crowd. Calendar Here's what you can look forward to this weekend, starting with tonight's (September 21) events: PKN Lucerne Vol. 5, PKN Vancouver Vol. 23, PKN Gisborne Vol. 10, and PKN London Vol. 8, which is part of this week's Lond Design Festival. On Saturday we have PKN Taipei Vol. 21, PKN Tallinn Vol. 5, PKN Hjorring Vol. 1, PKN Geneva Vol. 8, and PKN Lausanne Vol. 10, and then on Sunday it's PKN Kyoto Vol. 8.

Presentations In her presentation (from PKN Brisbane Vol. 27), illustrator and designer Jo Fallon talks about how her English and Japanese backgrounds have influenced her work, by sharing some of her illustrations and experiences. She also explains why it's important to choose your business card designs carefully. Matěj Al-Ali and Tomáš Moravec have together formed a creative studio in Prague called MeetFactory, and as you'll learn from their presentation (in Czech, from PKN Plzen Vol. 1), it has become a platform for opinions, workshops, and a place for ordinary meetings as well. Posters We end the week with three new posters on the Tumblr blog that are all for Vol. 10s, from the cities of Donostia (or San Sebastian, pictured above), St. Louis, and Gisborne. Powered by PechaKucha A special "Powered by PechaKucha" event is happening tonight (Friday, September 7, from 20:20) here in Tokyo at La Paz Loft (2-22-2 Jingumae, Fiction Bldg. 2F), produced by PKN Tel Aviv. The event is part of the month-long TEDER TEL AVIV-TOKYO 2012, for which PKN Tel Aviv organizer Anat Safran is currently in town. The event will feature presentations by a mix of Tel Aviv and Tokyo creators, as well as a presentation by PK co-founders Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham. Calendar Here's what to expect over the weekend on the PKN front: PKN Sioux Falls Vol. 4 and PKN Bangor, Maine Vol. 6 tonight (September 7), PKN Taichung Vol. 1 on Saturday, with PKN Heraklion Vol. 3 and PKN Kitakyushu Vol. 7 on Sunday.

Presentations Doreen Toutikian thinks that design can change the world for the better, and that's what she hopes to achieve with her "Rethinking Design Through Cross-Cultural Collaboration" project -- see her describe it in this presentation from PKN Beirut Vol. 13. Sebastian Alvarez loves animation, and that could help explain how he ended up becoming an animator. He uses this presentation (from PKN Miami Vol. 14) to describe the main principles behind animation, and shows how all animated forms (2D, CG) can be used to tell stories in original and creative ways. Posters We found this Facebook gallery of posters for Aalen's past PKNs, and so have added a few of them (the ones we'd never seen before) to our Tumblr blog -- and that's the one for PKN Aalen Vol. 2 you see pictured above. We've also added the poster for this week's PKN Portland, Maine Vol. 19 -- next up for the city is the momentous Vol. 20! Photos Today's photo galleries, as well as an event report. The photo above is from PKN Maribor Vol. 7.

PKN Sacramento organizer Claire Obenson reports on the city's recent Vol. 17:
There were presentations from creative professions across the spectrum, such as a playwright, David Blue Garrison, host of the event, who showed posters of his work; there was Andrea Lepore, the creative director for a well known restaurant, Hot Italian, who showed her plans for a well known strip, called Del Paso Blvd; we had Melissa Magliola who showed off her new company, Compliment Rings, whose proceeds "give back" to the community; Veronica Delgado, the great publicist and Artist Agent showed off her endeavours and volunteering efforts; Famed architect, Owen T. Jones presented images about "inside versus outside" spaces; Dennis Dong, another famed architect and PK Night veteran presenter showed off his anonymous spaces and lastly, Marvin Maldonado presented images from his wife's new boutique, Gypsy Mobile Boutique, Sacramento's first mobile boutique. Overall, this was one of the most interesting PK Nights we have ever held and thanks to all who participated!
Calendar Tonight (May 22) you'll find your PKN action in Montreal (Vol. 22), Dnipropetrovsk (Vol.1), and Dundee (Vol. 3), while tomorrow (May 23) you can look to these events for some PKN satisfaction: PKN Prague Vol. 29, PKN Ekaterinburg Vol. 3, PKN Leksand Vol. 4, and PKN Copenhagen's very special Vol. 20.
MARCH 07, 2012
Here are a few photos to share from the recent PechaKucha Night in San Sebastian (or Donostia, as you'd say in Basque) Vol. 8 -- we quite like the top photo, that sets an interesting atmosphere. And the series has gotten some nice press as well, as organizer Andrea Lizarza Artola tells us.

San Sebastian's PechaKucha Night Vol. 4 was held last night -- if you're curious to see who presented, you'll find the full list with links on the official event page. The poster for the event (above) includes a bit of Christmas cheer in the form of a letter written to Santa -- we can't read it, but here's hoping it's reasonable enough that the kid who wrote it manages to get some of his wishes granted on Christmas morning.
MARCH 05, 2010
PechaKucha Night is about to launch in San Sebastian -- well, more specifically just down the road in Donostia -- with the first event set to happen next week (March 11). The city page is not up yet but should be updated shortly, so please check the "PechaKucha Night" section of the site for more details in the coming days.
