Glass That Produces Heat, Killing Architecture, and Birthday Wishes from Catania
Presentations In this presentation, part of a special PKN event in Miami (Vol. 14) that dealt with sustainability and the environment, Roz Gatewood introduces EnergyGlass, a type of window that can produce heat. This presentation (in Czech, from PKN Plzen Vol. 1) by Laco Tousek is about social exclusion and spatial segregation, and the social anthropologist's point of view on sharing urban spaces. Who wants to kill the street? Developers, politicians, and architects -- they are the creators of the barriers between people interaction. Using several samples of high valued architecture projects from all over the world, he portrays architecture as a killer of public spaces. Posters There are no new additions to the Tumblr blog today, so instead we highlight one of our recent uploads, in this case the poster you see above for PKN Bogota Vol. 9, happening on October 12. Presentations For 2012, the historical city of Guimaraes (Portugal) has become the European Capital of Culture. During this time, the city is full of hope, energy, creativity, and it is also full of brand new 6'40'' narratives to share. Active since October 2011, the PechaKucha Night Guimares experience has had so many stories, and in this presentation (from PKN Tokyo Vol. 94), the city's organizers, José Martins and João Rosmaninho, will introduce and chat about the Country, the City, and its PechaKucha Night. Bohdan Bláhovec's presentation (in Czech, from PKN Plzen Vol. 1) is titled "The Vision of Developers and City Municipality," and as a representative of an unnamed developer, he covers the vision of future development in Plzen. In just 6 minutes and 666667 hundreds of seconds he undresses the city and thus exposes its pure beauty. Posters We have two new flyers to share today on the Tumblr blog: PKN Hanoi Vol. 5 (pictured above), happening this Thursday, and PKN Williamsburg Vol. 3, set for November. Event Report Here's a report from PKN Sacramento organizer Claire Obenson on the city's recent Vol. 18:
Held for the first time at the amazing Hot Italian Restaurant, it featured several presenters: John Krempel and his stunning art; self-possessed College students, Olivia, Rachel and Kelsey who showed photography and art; Robina Conway and her awesome wall paintings; Scott Vaughn with his bamboo tatooed leg and his fishing exploits; Entertaining architect, Dennis Dong and PK Night Poster Designer extraordinaire, Julie Vatuone, who presented work from her new business - Dirty up the Dress - with her business partner, Sonia Hidalgo. Sonia in her first jaunt as an MC was sparkling with her off-the-cuff kind remarks about the presenters and her ad-libbed presentation. It was simply awesome! Sonia will also be MCing Pecha Kucha Night Vol 19 during Sacramento's first ever Architecture Festival - stay tuned!
