Matt Mahon talks about the use of timber in multi-family residences in this PechaKucha presenation for NY Build.

Matt is an acoustic and audiovisual consultant in Arup’s New York office and is involved in a wide variety of projects, from performing arts facilities to corporate fit-out.  Matt studied mechanical engineering at Northwestern University and has a background in live sound and broadcast.

Construction 2000

Juho Viitasalo shares Construction 2000, a unique geometric steel sculpture in Helsinki, Finland. Its most eye catching feature is a 600 kg pyramid that seems to float in air without any support. This 10 meter tall physics defying structure has stood since 1982 and is truly unique in the world. However it is still somewhat unknown. Construction 2000 was designed by Markku Viitasalo and now his son wants to take the design to the world out of the confines of the office block where it stands in Helsinki. In her presentation this Wednesday, she will introduce a 5-story wooden apartment complex in Tokyo which took 10 years to complete!
