A 20x20 Lullaby, Surreal Drawn Life, and a PechaKucha Crate
Presentations Megg Evans is a Melbourne-based designer who co-founded Brolly Studios with Martin Heide and Stuart Webber. When she gave this presentation (from PKN Melbourne Vol. 19), her son Melvin was just 10 weeks old, and she brought him along and gave this beautiful 20x20 lullaby to her baby and the very impressed crowd. Fede Calandria's work could be described as a combination of art, design, and illustration. As he explains in this presentation (in Spanish, from PKN Mendoza Vol. 3), he finds inspiration everywhere, and likes to incorporate what he sees in his daily life, interpreting it in his own way. Posters We end the week with an explosion of posters on our Tumblr blog, with the following events being represented: PKN Guimaraes Vol. 3, PKN Memphis Vol. 1 and 2, PKN St. Albert Vol. 1, PKN Mallorca Vol. 1, and then PKN Maribor Vol. 9, which is pictured above. We sure love that Maribor tagline: "Come and meet our amazing guests. Creativity is their middle name ;-)" Below, a look at both sides of the flyer that was produced for last night's PKN Norwich Vol. 4. Photos We like this spray painted crate we spotted here, located at the entrance of this past week's PKN Bilbao Vol. 12. Below, a look at the old school billboard entrance to the theatre where last night's PKN Winnipeg Vol. 10 was held. Calendar It's Friday (June 22), and so here's what you can expect in terms of events over the weekend, starting with tonight: PKN Zilina Vol. 19, PKN Sendai Vol. 2, PKN Miami Vol. 2, PKN Gisborne Vol. 9, and PKN Seattle Vol. 37. It's a quiet Saturday in PKN land, but Sunday will see PKN Pueblo Vol. 5.

Rethinking Design, Some Animation Love, and the Aalen Poster Explosion
Presentations Doreen Toutikian thinks that design can change the world for the better, and that's what she hopes to achieve with her "Rethinking Design Through Cross-Cultural Collaboration" project -- see her describe it in this presentation from PKN Beirut Vol. 13. Sebastian Alvarez loves animation, and that could help explain how he ended up becoming an animator. He uses this presentation (from PKN Miami Vol. 14) to describe the main principles behind animation, and shows how all animated forms (2D, CG) can be used to tell stories in original and creative ways. Posters We found this Facebook gallery of posters for Aalen's past PKNs, and so have added a few of them (the ones we'd never seen before) to our Tumblr blog -- and that's the one for PKN Aalen Vol. 2 you see pictured above. We've also added the poster for this week's PKN Portland, Maine Vol. 19 -- next up for the city is the momentous Vol. 20! Photos Today's photo galleries, as well as an event report. The photo above is from PKN Maribor Vol. 7.

PKN Sacramento organizer Claire Obenson reports on the city's recent Vol. 17:
There were presentations from creative professions across the spectrum, such as a playwright, David Blue Garrison, host of the event, who showed posters of his work; there was Andrea Lepore, the creative director for a well known restaurant, Hot Italian, who showed her plans for a well known strip, called Del Paso Blvd; we had Melissa Magliola who showed off her new company, Compliment Rings, whose proceeds "give back" to the community; Veronica Delgado, the great publicist and Artist Agent showed off her endeavours and volunteering efforts; Famed architect, Owen T. Jones presented images about "inside versus outside" spaces; Dennis Dong, another famed architect and PK Night veteran presenter showed off his anonymous spaces and lastly, Marvin Maldonado presented images from his wife's new boutique, Gypsy Mobile Boutique, Sacramento's first mobile boutique. Overall, this was one of the most interesting PK Nights we have ever held and thanks to all who participated!
Calendar Tonight (May 22) you'll find your PKN action in Montreal (Vol. 22), Dnipropetrovsk (Vol.1), and Dundee (Vol. 3), while tomorrow (May 23) you can look to these events for some PKN satisfaction: PKN Prague Vol. 29, PKN Ekaterinburg Vol. 3, PKN Leksand Vol. 4, and PKN Copenhagen's very special Vol. 20.
MARCH 21, 2012
PechaKucha Night in Maribor Vol. 8 is happening tomorrow night (Thursday, March 22), and here's organizer Anja Hren with an explanation on the venue and how the poster links to it -- and the other photos in the post will give you a peek at the making of the poster. You'll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page.
The location of this event is very special, as it is an old surveillance tower of the Yugoslavian railways. It stands just beside the railway tracks that are of course still in use, so trains will pass by during the event. That is why there is a train on the poster. The poster was once again made by excellent Slovenian graphic designer Darjan Panič, and it is already one of the most loved Maribor PKN posters.

DECEMBER 12, 2011
Not only do we get to share the poster for the upcoming PechaKucha Night in Maribor Vol. 6 (December 16, with all presenters listed on the event page), but here's also a Flickr photoset that shows off the making of the poster. Also, here are a few words from organizer Anja Hren on the upcoming event (and don't forget that earlier today we posted photos from the city's Vol. 5).
For our sixth event we will host six interesting individuals. From graphic designers, illustrator, dancer, architect, woman rap singer and guardian of the oldest vintage vine in the world. The poster was once again made by slovenian graphic designer Darjan Panic from Design Studio Panic. The organizers of PKN Maribor are MMkreativ magazine and advertising agency Mediamix.
DECEMBER 12, 2011
As you'll see from the photos we share in this post, from the recent PechaKucha Night in Maribor Vol. 5, one of the night's presenters was very young indeed (all presenters are listed on the event page). There's more to see in this Flickr photoset. And please note that PKN Maribor Vol. 6 happens December 16 -- check the event page for more details and the list of presenters. More...
