Thoughtless Drawing Experiments, Invisible Elements in Good Design, and Providence's 40th
Presentations Tyler Weiss says he doesn't draw much anymore, but in his presentation (from PKN Williamsburg Vol. 1) he takes us on tour of some of the drawn art he's produced over the years, explaining where the inspiration came from. Susanna Cots is an internationally renowned interior designer from Barcelona who, in her presentation (in Catalan, from PKN Mallorca Vol. 1), explains the importance of invisible elements in a good design. Posters New additions to the Tumblr blog today include a few older posters, like the one for PKN Des Moines Vol. 7 you see above, as well as posters for last week's PKN Bemidji Vol. 14, last month's PKN Providence Vol. 40, and May's PKN New Haven Vol. 12. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzqoV1C3lqs Video As we mentioned above, we added the poster for last month's momentous PKN Vol. 40 in Providence to our poster blog, but here's also a 2-minute video produced by the Providence Journal that will give you a peek of what the outdoor event was like. Calendar We have two PKNs on tap for tonight (Friday, August 24): PKN Nagoya Vol. 12 and PKN Guangzhou Vol. 11. On Saturday, you can catch these two events: PKN Nagano Vol. 21 and PKN Gibsons Vol. 3.
AUGUST 20, 2012
Presentations What's it like riding a bike in Bangkok? As Greg Jorgensen's presentation (from PKN Bangkok Vol. 5) will reveal, it's all about the traffic. Pep Joan Tugores is a local jewelry handcrafter and in his presentation (in Spanish, from PKN Mallorca Vol. 1), he talks about how he learned to make hand-made jewelry, and then shares a few of his recent projects. Posters Today's new addition to the Tumblr blog is the poster you see above for the upcoming PKN Santiago Vol. 3, which marks a relaunch for that city's series. The PKN is set for September 6 at Galpon CAC. Photos Today we share a Flickr gallery of photos from PKN Uzice Vol. 2. Above, a look at some of the attendees, followed by two presenters. Calendar As we mentioned yesterday, it's a slow start this week, with the first PKNs happening tomorrow night (August 22), in the form of PKN Cairns Vol. 5 and PKN Durban Vol. 8.

Presentations Williamsburg is known for its historic districts, and especially the popular Duke of Gloucester Street. In this presentation by PKN Williamsburg organizer Dale Weiss (from the city's Vol. 1), we are shown a whole other part of the city that is usually hidden behind gates. Maxim Zirin is a TV producer. Together with a reporter and a cameraman he went to Chukotka to shoot a piece about how local people hunt whales for a weekly programme on Russian's NTV. Chukotka is the northeastern extremity of Asia, in the northern part of the Russian Far East. Please note that some of the images included in the presentation (in Russian, from PKN Moscow Vol. 10) are graphic. Posters We have a few new posters on the Tumblr blog today, starting with the 7-11 inspired example that you see above, for tonight's PKN Nashville Vol. 7 -- held on 7/11, get it? Also up today are posters/flyers for PKN Kansas City Vol. 11, PKN Cape Town Vol. 17, PKN Warsaw Vol. 6, and PKN Banja Luka Vol. 1. Photos We have two photo galleries to share today, the first for this past Saturday's PKN Marseille-Provence Vol. 19, which also marked the series 5th anniversary -- which explains why the crowd is holding a celebratory candle in the photo above. We had a tiny peek at Mallorca's Vol. 1 last week, but today we have a more complete gallery to share.
Calendar As we mentioned earlier, PKN Nashville Vol. 7 is happening tonight, and then tomorrow you can look forward to a packed evening: PKN St. Louis Vol. 9, PKN Regensburg Vol. 9, PKN Blue Mountains Vol. 2, PKN Wakefield Vol. 6, PKN Galway Vol. 7, PKN Blue Hill Vol. 4, and PKN Kyiv Vol. 8.

Presentations UNESCO designated Indonesian Batik as a "Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" on October 2, 2009. As Yudhinia Venkanteswari explains in her presentation (from PKN Tokyo Vol. 93), what distinguishes it from other manual wax-resist dyeing technique is that traditional Indonesian Batik uses "canting," a bamboo pen with copper wax container, as a tool to draw a pattern with melted wax on a piece of cloth. Another technique used is "cap," which is to create a shape of melted wax with a copper stamp. The waxing and dyeing is then repeated to get the desired colored patterns. Pablo Martínez has won numerous skateboarding championships in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Uruguay, and has adapted skateboarding to his own philosophy of life, which he shares with his sons. In this presentation (in Spanish, from PKN Mar Del Plata Vol. 2), he talks about how great it is to travel with them around the world for skateboarding. Photos Kicking off the week, we have a few photo galleries to share from around the web, some larger than others. The photos above are all from last week's PKN Bordeaux Vol. 7. Please note that the link for the Pittsburgh event also includes a report of how things went.

- PKN Pittsburgh Vol. 12 [AIA Pittsburgh]
- PKN Mallorca Vol. 1 [Facebook]
- PKN Hyderabad Vol. 9 [Facebook]
And instead of a photo, below is a wonderful illustration by PKN Longmont organizer Dwayne Wolff of the audience at the city's very first PKN, back in 2011. Links We have a couple of links to share today, one covering PKN Muscat, the other PKN Charleston.
Calendar Here comes July, and as is usually the case during the summer, we start seeing fewer events due to the holidays. There is an event tonight (July 2) though, and so you can look to PKN Pittsboro Vol. 11 for some PechaKucha satisfaction.
JUNE 22, 2012
Presentations Megg Evans is a Melbourne-based designer who co-founded Brolly Studios with Martin Heide and Stuart Webber. When she gave this presentation (from PKN Melbourne Vol. 19), her son Melvin was just 10 weeks old, and she brought him along and gave this beautiful 20x20 lullaby to her baby and the very impressed crowd. Fede Calandria's work could be described as a combination of art, design, and illustration. As he explains in this presentation (in Spanish, from PKN Mendoza Vol. 3), he finds inspiration everywhere, and likes to incorporate what he sees in his daily life, interpreting it in his own way. Posters We end the week with an explosion of posters on our Tumblr blog, with the following events being represented: PKN Guimaraes Vol. 3, PKN Memphis Vol. 1 and 2, PKN St. Albert Vol. 1, PKN Mallorca Vol. 1, and then PKN Maribor Vol. 9, which is pictured above. We sure love that Maribor tagline: "Come and meet our amazing guests. Creativity is their middle name ;-)" Below, a look at both sides of the flyer that was produced for last night's PKN Norwich Vol. 4. Photos We like this spray painted crate we spotted here, located at the entrance of this past week's PKN Bilbao Vol. 12. Below, a look at the old school billboard entrance to the theatre where last night's PKN Winnipeg Vol. 10 was held. Calendar It's Friday (June 22), and so here's what you can expect in terms of events over the weekend, starting with tonight: PKN Zilina Vol. 19, PKN Sendai Vol. 2, PKN Miami Vol. 2, PKN Gisborne Vol. 9, and PKN Seattle Vol. 37. It's a quiet Saturday in PKN land, but Sunday will see PKN Pueblo Vol. 5.
