JANUARY 23, 2013
Architecture, Graphic design, Illustration, Music, Literature, Eco-Design and travelling, there will be a lot to watch this coming Friday at our Pecha Kucha Night edition in Lisbon. It is a promising edition full of surprises and very exciting presentations. Also, 2013 it's here & we are in a party mood so to celebrate a new partnership with Teatro do Bairro, we'll be having an After Party with a DJ set of Irmão Lúcia, one of our speakers.
The poster was designed by hello stranger, who will also be there.
You can't miss this one!

Presentations We kick off a new week of presentations with one from Curitiba (Vol. 1) and one from Cork (Vol. 3). In "Underground Food" (in Portuguese), Guilherme Caldas takes us on a tour Curitiba's lesser known culinary highlights. If you've been feeling like you need to get a bit more excitement in your day, try following Niall Doherty and his "Random Acts of Courage." Posters We've got a few new posters on our Tumblr blog, including the ones for PKN Mendoza Vol. 4 (above), PKN London Vol. 6, and PKN Dnipropetrovsk Vol. 1, which debuts tomorrow. Videos Instead of sharing photos today, and since there seems to be an absolute boom in these, today we share a few teaser videos that have been produced for PKNs -- we love them so much that we often play some at our PKNs here in Tokyo. Below, teaser videos for PKN Curitiba Vol. 2, PKN Tel Aviv Vol. 13, and PKN Lisbon Vol. 14. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J5alkNK6zI httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMu22YtbFiU Links

Calendar Tonight (Monday, May 21) you have your choice of the very first PechaKucha Night in the city of Muscat, Oman, or another blockbuster PKN (Vol. 13) in Tel Aviv. Tomorrow (May 22), Montreal will be hosting its Vol. 22, and Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine -- how's that for a mouthful -- will have its first PKN.

Presentations The first of our two presentations today, "Inside Wood and Paint: The Heart of Making," comes from PKN Taos Vol. 3, and sees Patti Tronolone sharing her paintings and furniture pieces, linking the latter to her love of nature. The second presentation is Kotama Bouabane's "Chinese's Replication of Orange County" (PKN Toronto Vol. 15) in which he reveals a Beijing suburb that was made to look like Orange County in California. Posters We've got two new posters on our Tumblr blog today, one for this Sunday's PKN Lisbon Vol. 14 (above), and one for PKN Kumamoto Vol. 3, which is set for June 1. Photos We of course have a few new galleries to share with you today, but also a fantastic teaser video for the upcoming PKN Guimaraes Vol. 2, above (produced by Damnworks).

And we're not quite sure what the significance of the following photo is (from Flickr user Kalexandersen), but with the title "On stage for a PechaKucha," it felt natural to include it. Links A couple of PK-related links to keep you reading.

Calendar We covered in yesterday's post what you can expect from tonight in terms of events (5 PKNs), but for the weekend, Saturday (May 19) will see two Japanese series with new volumes, with PKN Kitakyushu Vol. 6 and PKN Nara Vol. 2. On Sunday (May 20), there's the aformentioned PKN Lisbon Vol. 14, as well as PKN Mendoza Vol. 4. For a peek at what next week has to offer, have a look at the full calendar.

This wasn't the poster for Lisbon's Global Cities Week event -- you'll find that here -- but we do quite like this image/flyer that we found. One very interesting component of the event was that all tickets were printed on recycled postcards, and we assume that's what you're seeing above. A really great way to allude to the city nature of the event.

And today's Lisbon triple header (see the event review and flyer for the city's Vol. 9) ends with a look at another terrific poster, this one for last Friday's PechaKucha Night in Lisbon Vol. 11, and designed by Tamara Alves, who was also one of the evening's presenters. And if you're wondering where PKN Lisbon Vol. 10 fell in all this, that was an Inspire Japan-related event held in early May, and you'll find the lovely Japan-inspired poster here.
