AUGUST 01, 2012
Presentations As any true beer connoisseur will tell you, all beers are not created equal. In this presentation (from PKN Tokyo Vol. 94), Shiro Yamada talks about the micro brewery he helped create to make a better beer (Nippon Craft Beer Inc.) and the "KAGUA" scented ale he's been producing. This presentation (in French, from PKN Lausanne Vol. 8) gets rather "heady," as Pierre Magistretti takes everyone on a detailed tour of the brain, and other aspects of newrobiology (the study of the nervous system). Posters New on the Tumblr blog today is the poster you see above, for the upcoming PKN Nagoya Vol. 12. The event will be held on August 24 at Montage Lounge. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QniQ5qxaubQ Videos Dnipropetrovsk's PKN Vol. 2 was yesterday (or is possibly still happening as we write this), and organizer Volodymyr Nedogoda has shared the video you see above, to give us an idea of what the city's Vol. 1 -- held back in May -- was like. Calendar There are two events on tap for today (August 1): PKN Glasgow Vol. 9 and PKN Azores Vol. 3. Tomorrow gets a bit busier, with the following three events: PKN Winter Harbor Vol. 6, PKN Springfield, IL Vol. 8, and PKN Victoria Vol. 10.
JUNE 25, 2012
Presentations In this presentation (from PKN Sydney Vol. 21) by Anna Lise de Lorenzo you'll find out all about &company, a project that gives emerging designers the opportunity to build their design experience within a creative community. They provide mentoring, facilitate production with local craftspeople and manufacturers, and take care of the marketing and distribution of the design. &company is on a mission to give designers a leg-up as they develop into capable and confident professionals. Not just for designers, the new Pop-Up premises in The Rocks invites anyone in to come and make something in the workshop, learn new skills in a class, or check out the work by their designers in the gallery and store. Poet and rapper Pablo Xavier suffers from schizophrenia, but he feels much better now. Through poetry and images, he explains how hard it has been. A very personal and touching presentation (in French, from PKN Lausanne Vol. 9). Posters We have two new posters on the Tumblr blog today, first for PKN London Vol. 7 (pictured above), and then for PKN Gainesville Vol. 4, which are happening on June 28 and 29 respectively. Photos We have one set of photos to share with you today, taken at last week's PKN Brighton Vol. 11 -- you're seeing one of those photos above. Of course, you can always find plenty of other event photos on our PechaKucha Night Flickr account. Calendar Back from the weekend, you can start your week with tonight's PKN Rotterdam Vol. 30. Tomorrow (June 26), you can look for the following two events: PKN Amersfoort Vol. 7 and PKN Buenos Aires Vol. 25.
JUNE 12, 2012
Presentations Cindy Waldron is a professional photographer based in Blue Mountains, but her passion extends beyond her professional work. In this presentation (from PKN Blue Mountains Vol. 1), she walks us through a collection of personal works entitled "Time Out Photography." In their presentation (in French, from PKN Lausanne Vol. 9), architects Marco Bakker and Alexandre Blanc start by looking at various examples throughout history of what they see as examples of schizophrenia in architecture. They finish by describing one of their own projects -- the Swiss embassy in Algiers -- and how they also see it as reflecting a certain level of schizophrenic reality (the co-existence of two cultures). Posters Our addition (pictured above) to the Tumblr blog today is from Aalborg, for that city's Vol. 8, which happens tonight. The poster was designed by Kasper Anthoni. Photos A few new photo galleries to share with you today, with the shot above taken by Silvia Aresca at last week's PKN Genoa Vol. 2 (there's more to see in the photostream link below).

MAY 10, 2012
Here are a few photos from PechaKucha Night in Lausanne Vol. 8 -- you'll find all the presenters listed with links on the official event page -- which organizer Cyril Veillon describes thusly: "Our PechaKucha #8 in Lausanne was on the topic of the schizophrenia. Great subject in fact. We had a powerful presentation by a rap musician who was schizophrenic. Very intense. And 2 doctors, 1 TV presenter, 2 architects, 1 dancer." Please note that that PKN Lausanne Vol. 9 is happening tomorrow night (May 11) at Bellerive-Plage -- all presenters are listed on the event page. More...
