Why do the stars thrill us so?

Neil Ghosh shares his love for astronomy, and takes us on a tour that covers different aspects of the science, tying it to his own personal learning of it. In "For the Love of Astronomy" from PKN Hyderabad Vol. 9, Neil gives us a small tour of the stars, and speaks on how the study of the heavens started -- with absolutely no scientific background.

PKN Usti nad Labem Vol. 2 Presentations In her presentation (from PKN Hyderabad Vol. 9), Lasya Moronica shares some of the very detailed and complex line drawings she produces.  Jiri Toman is a young graphic artist, and in his presentation (in Czech, from PKN Usti nad Labem Vol. 2) he talks about his diploma project. This presentation (in German, from PKN Augsburg Vol. 1) is made up of random selections, forcing Dominic Antritter to improvise to images he has never seen. The slides are all strange and funny -- and real -- eBay auctions that needed some explaining. PKN Osijek Vol. 1 Posters Today's addition to the Tumblr blog is a poster for Osijek's upcoming Vol. 1, set for October 5 -- you'll find the presenters listed with links on the official event pagePKN Santiago Vol. 3 Photos We were big fans of the poster for PKN Santiago Vol. 3, and now have a photo gallery [Flickr] to share from the event itself.  Calendar Here's what to look for tonight (September 13): PKN Ottawa Vol. 6, PKN Burlington Vol. 8,PKN Perth Vol. 10, PKN Bordeaux Vol. 8, and a special edition PK event in Amsterdam at the Stedelijk Museum. The master classes and workshops have the goal of inspiring people to cook and to save time when doing so. PKN Mendoza Vol. 6 Posters Today's addition to the Tumblr blog is whiskerlicious, with the wonderful illustrated poster for the upcoming PKN Mendoza Vol. 6, pictured above.  PKN Chelmsford Photos The city of Chelmsford hasn't had its first PKN yet -- although we expect that will happen soon -- but here's what appears to be a bit of... guerrilla teasing? It was found on Instagram, with the tags #pechakucha, #chelmsford, and #20x20. Walking for Art, Thoughts on Games, and a Teaser Video from Hyderabad

PKN Pittsfield Vol. 1 Presentations Walking and taking in art sure sounds like a winning combination, and that's just what you get with First Fridays Artswalk. Mary McGinnis uses her presentation (from PKN Pittsfield Vol. 1) to explain the project. Federico Fasce (of Urustar) talks about how he thinks games can change the world. He believes that games are the most important form of expression of this century. The presentation (in Italian, from PKN Genoa Vol. 1) covers his experience with Privacy Traders, a game designed and developed for high school students. In Privacy Traders, through mechanical trade and exchange, the idea is to stimulate a reflection on the sharing of personal data, on the role of the internet and social networks, and on the importance to better understand the people to whom we entrust sensitive data every day. PKN Nantes Vol. 4 Posters We have a few new posters on the Tumblr blog today, starting with PKN Nantes Vol. 4 that you see above. Also added were posters for PKN St. Petersburg Vol. 21, as well as for PKN Dunedin Vol. 13 and 14. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZB-2v4IcQA Video Here's a video teaser for PKN Hyderabad Vol. 10, which is taking place this coming Saturday (September 1). PKN Tokyo Vol. 93 Presentations UNESCO designated Indonesian Batik as a "Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" on October 2, 2009. As Yudhinia Venkanteswari explains in her presentation (from PKN Tokyo Vol. 93), what distinguishes it from other manual wax-resist dyeing technique is that traditional Indonesian Batik uses "canting," a bamboo pen with copper wax container, as a tool to draw a pattern with melted wax on a piece of cloth. Another technique used is "cap," which is to create a shape of melted wax with a copper stamp. The waxing and dyeing is then repeated to get the desired colored patterns. Pablo Martínez has won numerous skateboarding championships in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Uruguay, and has adapted skateboarding to his own philosophy of life, which he shares with his sons. In this presentation (in Spanish, from PKN Mar Del Plata Vol. 2), he talks about how great it is to travel with them around the world for skateboarding. PKN Bordeaux Vol. 7 PKN Bordeaux Vol. 7 PKN Bordeaux Vol. 7 Photos Kicking off the week, we have a few photo galleries to share from around the web, some larger than others. The photos above are all from last week's PKN Bordeaux Vol. 7. Please note that the link for the Pittsburgh event also includes a report of how things went.

And instead of a photo, below is a wonderful illustration by PKN Longmont organizer Dwayne Wolff of the audience at the city's very first PKN, back in 2011. PKN Longmont Vol. 1 Links We have a couple of links to share today, one covering PKN Muscat, the other PKN Charleston

Calendar Here comes July, and as is usually the case during the summer, we start seeing fewer events due to the holidays. There is an event tonight (July 2) though, and so you can look to PKN Pittsboro Vol. 11 for some PechaKucha satisfaction.

My Movie Fan Artwork Many of us may be movie buffs, but Karthik Abhiram takes it a step further by producing fan art about his favorite films, and the ones that inspire him. In "My Movie Fan Artwork," he shares a few of the works he's created throughout the years, covering all genres. It was recorded at PechaKucha Night in Hyderabad Vol. 6, and is in English.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jukPbmysDu8 Here's a little video peek at PechaKucha Night in Hyderabad Vol. 6, that was held in November of last year. The city has already had another event since (Vol. 7), back in February, and so it surely won't take long for a Vol. 8 to be announced.

Why I Run Even though he's had a lifelong passion for it, running hasn't always come easy for Steven Kaplan. In "Why I Run," he shows us how his relationship with the sport has evolved over the years, and shares the heights he eventually was able to achieve. The presentation was recorded at PechaKucha Night in Hyderabad Vol. 6, and is in English.
