PechaKucha Night Honolulu Vol. 22 is this Friday. Come with family and friends for a pleasant evening of creative talks revolving around the theme, "Fire!". The lineup includes local scientists, educators, published authors, local artists, and an assistant curator from the Honolulu Museum of Art.

Ginger & Smoke will be joining us to provide food, and the Fall 2014 Young Artist Exhibition will be open for view in the Art School's main gallery during the event.

Fire from the Breathless Muck

Former science teacher and practicing artist Justin Davies delves into the mythical “will-o’-the-wisp” atmospheric ghost lights seen at night over bogs and swamps. Justin gives us a scientific history of methane, oxygen, and carbons.

Restraining the Fire

Stephen Salel is the Robert F. Lange Foundation Assistant Curator of Japanese Art at the Honolulu Museum of Art. He has recently co-curated a series of exhibitions on the topic of Japanese erotic art, and also co-author of the text Shunga: Stages of Desire.

Agni: Fire of the Soul

Sooriya’s name is the Tamil version of the Sanskrit Surya which stands for the Sun and Fire. The images to be shown in Pecha Kucha  - Fire will reveal the often unseen role fire plays in Sooriya’s life.

A Life with Fire

In the mid 90’s Mark co-found Glass Design Group, a limited production studio glass studio in upstate New York.  In 1998 he returned to Honolulu to teach glassblowing at Punahou School, and is currently a board member of Hawaii Craftsmen.

Linda Yamamoto’s specialty and background is in metal casting, metal fabrication and sculpture. Her talk will use images of her art work to talk about her personal journey from Frank Sheriff to Linda Yamamoto.

Fire and Life

Upon completion of Jon’s BFA in Ceramics he came to work here at the Art School as an instructor and eventually become part of the full-time staff as the Ceramics Program Manager. Jon continues to create his ceramic works and is featured in exhibitions throughout the island.

Retired Professor of Astronomy from the University of Hawaii Gareth Wynn-Williams speaks about the stars and the universe. Gareth shows us what 34 years of fantastic astronomy lectures condensed to 6 min 40 sec results in.

Lava Flows

Scott Rowland gained his love for the outdoors from the Hawai‘i Service Trip Program, and in college was happy to find a major (Geology & Geophysics) that involved being outdoors. He has been researching and teaching about lava flows at UH for more years than he wants to think about, but never tires of seeing them, flowing or not, in the field.
