GUATEMALA CITY Posts
MARCH 21, 2013
Guatemala's Vol. 3 is over two months off at this point (June 27, 2013), but that hasn't stopped them from getting prepared -- very prepared.
Take a look at their local website to see what we mean, or check out this very hip video (in Spanish, naturally). There's a cornucopia of creativity coming out of Central and South America, and we couldn't be more excited to see it all roll out in connection with PechaKucha.

Grids and Circles in Our World, Student Life at a Technical University, and Photos from Samara and Toledo
Presentations Fran Ward sees grids and circles in the world around her. As she explains in her presentation (from PKN Williamsburg Vol. 2), she uses those references to make sense of that world and her place in it. In their shared presentation (in Czech, from PKN Usti nad Labem Vol. 2), Marek Hudáč and Matyáš Fialka talk about what it's like being a 1st grade architecture student at the Technical University of Liberec, and describe the atmosphere of the school's huge studio. Posters We really love all of the posters and flyers that Guatemala City has produced for tonight's Vol. 2, and pictured above we have yet another great promotional item to share. The rest of today's Tumblr blog additions include posters for PKN Dundee Vol. 4 (below), PKN Dunsborough Vol. 6, PKN Wellington Vol. 17, and PKN Waterville Vol. 9. Photos Samara has had a few events now, but here's a photo gallery [Flickr] that shows off that city's very first PKN -- pictured above, an attentive crowd, and one of that night's presenters. Below, a photo from the recent PKN Toledo Vol. 3, taken by Kathie VanNess. Calendar As we mentioned yesterday, the following five events are happening tonight (October 25), but we have one addition (PKN Lausanne Vol. 12): PKN Guatelmala City Vol. 2, PKN Lille Vol. 2, PKN Knoxville Vol. 5, PKN Chillicothe Vol. 1, and PKN Vladimir Vol. 9. Friday has the following seven events: PKN Orlando Vol. 7, PKN Bern Vol. 19, PKN Waterville Vol. 9, PKN Koszalin Vol. 10, PKN Wellington Vol. 17, PKN Cagliari Vol. 4, and PKN Castellon de la Plana Vol. 2.

Photos of Life and Family, Imagination Within the Human Rights World, and Posters Galore

As you'll see in his presentation (in Czech, from PKN Usti nad Labem Vol. 2), he offers up a distinctive view of his family, transsexuality, and the world around him. Grace Wu is a human rights activist who works for Amnesty International, and through her presentation (from PKN Toronto Vol. 14) she shares her journey of working in the human rights field, and shares some of the things she's learned through that work and experience. Presentations Anarchitect[s] is a collaboration between Jonathan Ashmore and Tarik Al Zaharna. This concept creates a platform for a collaboration between architecture and research projects in the U.A.E. In this presentation (from PKN Dubai Vol. 11), Tarik will be sharing with us the journey in realizing architectural programs, focusing on their recent project 'DXB Store'. Kyoko and Hannah Waldron come together to present (in Japanese, with some English, from PKN Tokyo Vol. 94) some of the furoshiki designs produced under the LINK collective. We also get a glimpse at how these traditional items are made. Posters We have one new poster on the Tumblr blog today, and it's for a special edition PKN Trnava, which is set to take place on August 10 (a regular Vol. 5 is set for September). And although we already shared the poster for the recent PKN Shenzhen Vol. 11, here's a photo of it out in the wild: Videos Here's a short video look at a recent PKN in Guatemala City -- it was the first PKN to be held in that city. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYZHqV350iE Calendar We're looking at another slow summer week, and start off with no PKNs on this Monday night, but tomorrow (July 31) will see PKN Dnipropetrovsk Vol. 2.
JULY 27, 2012
Presentations Jean-Paul Toonen is the organizer of PKN Maastricht, and in this presentation done in Tokyo (Vol. 94), he walks us through one of his days spent visiting our dear city, sharing funny observations about the way that Tokyo (and Japan) can appear to a foreigner. All photos were taken the day before the PKN. In this presentation (in Dutch, from PKN Amersfoort Vol. 6), Leo van der Veen walk us through his way of thinking, in this case, by showing how he created a barrel organ by using an old church organ that has been rammed with an iron in order to rotate it -- and it still makes great music. Do you know how groceries sound? Your daily yoghurt? A pack of cereal? Peanut butter? Each barcode can be scanned with Leo's tool, to then reveal its own voice. Posters Yesterday we shared a flyer image for the upcoming PKN Guatemala City Vol. 2, and today's addition to the Tumblr blog is a proper poster for the event, which is taking place on August 4. Photos PechaKucha founders Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein were being interviewed today in their office (Klein Dytham architecture) for a magazine, and here's a quick shot as they were posing for a proper photo for the article. The setup surrounding them reveals the equipment used to record the greeting videos they always prepare and send to PKN city organizers for their first event, and for the city's Vol. 20. Calendar What can you expect over the weekend? First, on Friday, we have the following four events: PKN Champaign-Urbana Vol. 10, PKN Pune Vol. 5, PKN Ekaterinburg Vol. 4, and PKN Tbilisi Vol. 2. On Saturday, we have PKN Latina Vol. 2, PKN Salt Spring Island Vol. 3, and PKN San Juan (Argentina) Vol. 7. Sunday will finish us off with PKN Shenzhen Vol. 11 and PKN Mendoza Vol. 5.
