Il Tempo Di una Storia

BY SERGIO BADINO
@ VOL 10 ON OCT 31, 2014

BY DEWREC (/DJU:REK/)
@ VOL 10 ON OCT 31, 2014

Retrofront is an up-cycling paper project that turns the huge electoral and advertising posters overproduction into block-notes. Based in Turin, retrofront was created by a interdisciplinary team, coming from Dewrec. Handmade at first, collecting papers from local partys' headquarters, today retrofront drives a net of salvage in Piedmont and mechanizes the production in order to spread the salvage of paper and sale as much as possible. Capitalism wastes sources and destroys the environment, but we are convinced that we can fill its wholes with our intelligence and creativity, saving time and energy, giving back space and jobs. In the next few months, retrofront will diversify, realizing block-notes of different dimensions and different looks. The whole supply and production chain follows social and environmental sustainability criteria, indeed.

Bergallo & Altri Animali

BY ALESSANDRO BERGALLO
@ VOL 10 ON OCT 31, 2014

A format to make science popular through entertainment. A variety. A monthly meeting which has taken place at La Claque (teatro della Tosse) in Genoa throughout the year 2014 and which has been dedicated to the understanding of the world of animals, with special guests and music. A comic show with a specific subject, that tells which are the dynamics of a group and which are the individual behaviours that make us similar -and feel different at the same time- to all the other living forms of this piece of earth. Insects, fishes, monkeys, reptiles, dinosaurs and fantasy animals like the "elephunk" (an elephant which loves the funky music): all the beasts are recalled to explain the complex dynamics that rule our relationships. On stage: musicians, biologists, scientists of the Robotic School in Genoa  with drones and robots, dancers, actors, comedians, dragqueen and whatever contributes to tell the story of each episode through the show.

La Matematica Della Bellezza

BY GABRIELE GELATTI
@ VOL 10 ON OCT 31, 2014

BY GIOVANI URBANISTI FONDAZIONE LABÒ
@ VOL 10 ON OCT 31, 2014

From the 1st July 2014 Giovani Urbanisti – Fondazione Labò association started to manage the monumental complex of the Lanterna di Genova, the historical lighthouse of Genoese port. The voluntary action was aimed to avoid its forthcoming closure due to the lack of funds hitting the Provincia di Genova local authority. We gladly accepted the responsibility to sustain the landmark of our city in such a difficult time, in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of its opening to the public. Despite being classified as a “National Monument”, the risk to fall into disuse was really high, as it happened to many of the forts crowning Genoa.

Therefore, through our attempts to regenerate and promote the complex, we hope that the citizens could get more passionate about their lighthouse and could more and more identify themselves in it, as symbol of Genoese culture and history.

Ephémera: Colei che Vive un Solo Giorno

BY AQUA AURA
@ VOL 10 ON OCT 31, 2014

EPHEMERA: the one that lives one day only" currently at VISIONQUEST Contemporary Photography in Genoa,  created by the AQUA AURA. The Ephemera is an insect that lives only one day, its life takes place in just 24 hours, going through all stages and completing this journey in a very short amount of time. The name in English Ephemeral, in common language stands for something temporary and evanescent. Aqua Aura shows, with some of the works in the exhibition and the impermanent installationt that accompanies tise exhibition, his personal interpretation of the contemporary world, both from the sociological and more specifically poetic point of views.  An exhibition in which the sense of time - and the actual viewing experience - is intertwined and it is based on two extremes; a state of absolute insecurity on one side and the aspiration to a  methaphysical eternity on the other.

A GARA COL TEMPO SENZA OROLOGIO – La Percezione del Tempo Negli Animali e Bambini.

BY EVELINA ISOLA
@ VOL 10 ON OCT 31, 2014

This project have been presented to the 12th edition of Genoa Science Festival, as a playful lab for kids. Do animals have perception of the time? According to some scientists, only humans have a real memory, while the other animals have a perception of the time limited or episodic. A different perception of time can have different utilities according to escape strategy, communication or feeding. Time and its perception are not relative only on physics books! This happens in a lot of very small animals, for example the flies that perceive the world with a slow motion effect.

In other species the perception of time is connected to their movement in the space, as in case of dolphin and bats biosonar. Children are conducted in a fascinating “time travel” in their time perceptions, from the perception that themselves have, to try out what other animals fell of time, according to the different utility in the survival strategies.

IL FESTIVAL DELLA SCIENZA

BY MANUELA ARATA
@ VOL 10 ON OCT 31, 2014

BY MATILDE MARTINELLI
@ VOL 9 ON JUN 05, 2014

Matilde Martinelli goes into depth on how I NUOVI VESTITI DI H.C. represents the willingness to establish a link between two of the most powerful means of expression turned to the world of childhood: the fairy tale (written or simply transmitted orally ) which refers to the Prize for unpublished fairy tales H.C. Andersen, and the illustration, which is not meant as a didactic translation of a text, but as an element that enriches a narrative of new meanings.

In an effort to introduce in the festival an aspect strongly connected to the field of illustration, some of the artists in the exhibition will take part in a live drawing performance. This event will take place on the occasion of the proclamation of the fairy tales Prize winners, constituting a visual counterpoint that will come back to introduce itself during the days of the event by conducting many workshops aimed at the children illustration. The group of illustrators operates under the name of UVASPINA, a newborn identity attributed to an open collective, which is active only during the days of the Festival.
