Michiel van der Zanden maakt grote 'landschappelijke' schilderijen en kleine werken met losse/geïsoleerde objecten. Het zijn surreële situaties in de alledaagse werkelijkheid... bezienswaardigheden, horecagelegenheden en trekpleisters zoals je die tegenkomt in (Zuid-)Nederland. Hij importeert de wereld van de digitale media in de schilderkunst en vice versa. De serie getiteld 'Re-creatie' is daarom ook letterlijk op te vatten: alle situaties zijn opnieuw opgebouwd in 3D software (Blender). Deze virtuele maquettes vormen zijn schetsmateriaal.
