“Cycle touring is the future of travel. It’s cheap, It’s environmentally friendly, it's a lot of fun and it's a type of travel where you:re not trying to get from city to city as fast as you can. ”
What happens when a young cartoon-blogger plus her family decide to pack up for a year and embark on an 11,000km unsupported bicycle trip through Africa? A serious, permanent addiction to seeing the world by bicycle – that’s what. In The Wonders of Bicycle Adventuring, from PechaKucha Night Cape Town’s 37th volume, speaker Tegan Phillips give a short cartoon presentation about the wonders of long distance bicycle-travel.

Once again, a Kamikaze speaker is prepared to put his wits on the line for 20 images that he has never seen before. Prepare to be blown away by the courage of a simple man. And Braam, ran 4 200 km along the entire length of the Great Wall of China in a single attempt. This translated to running over a marathon a day for over 100 days! Scientists said this was impossible. Also the magical world of bee keeping and a glimpse into the fascinating life of a honey bee -we humans have so much to learn from these little creatures!

Presentations You're never too young to do a PechaKucha presentation! Meet Archie, aged 7, who takes the opportunity in his presentation (from PKN Derby Vol. 5) to introduce us to his friend Jeremiah, aged 6, who lives in Kenya. As we learn in Henrik Fahlen's presentation (in Swedish, from PKN Varberg Vol. 2), SUP stands for "Stand Up Paddleboarding," which means that you stand up on a big surfboard and use a paddle. This ancient form of surfing reemerged when surf instructors realized the benefits of it, that by being higher you can better see oncoming waves. Today, SUP has turned into the fastest growing water sport in the world. Posters We kick off the week on the Tumblr blog with this new poster from Aalborg, for the city's upcoming Vol. 10. It was designed by Helena Sokol. You'll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page. Photos Cape Town had its Vol. 21 just a few days ago, and here's a post from someone who attended the event that includes some rather nice photos from the event. Calendar There are no PKNs on the agenda for tonight, but tomorrow (November 13) you'll find the following four events: PKN Brighton Vol. 17, PKN Leksand Vol. 5, PKN Denver Vol. 15, and PKN San Diego Vol. 16.

In the presentation (from PKN Williamsburg Vol. 1) she shares her work, and we get a behind-the-scenes look at the techniques and materials she uses, as well as what inspires her. In her presentation (in Czech, from PKN Usti nad Labem), Eva Mráziková talks about drawings she's done, and also shares her philosophy on teaching. Presentations Williamsburg is known for its historic districts, and especially the popular Duke of Gloucester Street. In this presentation by PKN Williamsburg organizer Dale Weiss (from the city's Vol. 1), we are shown a whole other part of the city that is usually hidden behind gates. Maxim Zirin is a TV producer. Together with a reporter and a cameraman he went to Chukotka to shoot a piece about how local people hunt whales for a weekly programme on Russian's NTV. Chukotka is the northeastern extremity of Asia, in the northern part of the Russian Far East. Please note that some of the images included in the presentation (in Russian, from PKN Moscow Vol. 10) are graphic. Posters We have a few new posters on the Tumblr blog today, starting with the 7-11 inspired example that you see above, for tonight's PKN Nashville Vol. 7 -- held on 7/11, get it? Also up today are posters/flyers for PKN Kansas City Vol. 11, PKN Cape Town Vol. 17, PKN Warsaw Vol. 6, and PKN Banja Luka Vol. 1. Photos We have two photo galleries to share today, the first for this past Saturday's PKN Marseille-Provence Vol. 19, which also marked the series 5th anniversary -- which explains why the crowd is holding a celebratory candle in the photo above. We had a tiny peek at Mallorca's Vol. 1 last week, but today we have a more complete gallery to share.

Presentations Tatiana Guryeva's presentation (in Ukrainian, from PKN Kyiv Vol. 7) is based on recollections of her childhood. You'll see the Kyiv of the 70s and 80s, or at least how it has remained in her memory, as well as Pechersk, the area where she grew up, and Podol, the area where she currently lives.
Art’s task is to Save the Soul of Mankind, and that anything less is a dithering while Rome burns. Because if the Artist, who are self-selected to be able to journey into the other... if the Artist cannot find the way, then the Way cannot be Found.
Adopting this Terence McKenna quote as his mantra and accidentally stumbling into what he calls "Thought Structure" through his art, blakeArt® (aka Matt Blake), with all his might and good intent, attempts to do just that: find a way for All. We are all "One" in the "Same," and he expands on that idea in this presentation (from PKN Chicago Vol. 18). Posters New on the Tumblr blog today are posters for PKN Guimaraes Vol. 3 (pictured above), PKN Springfield, Ohio Vol. 5, and PKN Cape Town Vol. 19. We've also added a few posters and flyers from PKN Buenos Aires that we hadn't come across in the past, including the flyer you see above, for the city's Vol. 21. PKN Buenos Aires Vol. 25 happens tonight. Photos and video We have a few photo galleries to share today, including from the recent PKN Barcelona Vol. 16, which is what you see above. After the link, you'll also find a great video round-up from the event -- we sure love that "20th Century Fox" intro done PK-style.
Calendar Tonight (June 26) your PKN satisfaction will come from the following two events: PKN Amersfoort Vol. 7 and the previously mentioned PKN Buenos Aires Vol. 25. Tomorrow, on top of PKN Tokyo Vol. 93, you'll find PKN Kingston Vol. 3 and PKN Providence Vol. 39.
