Barcelona just celebrated its 20th PechaKucha Night -- a momentous volume number we always love seeing a city reach -- and here's a look at the great "banzai" shot they took with the crowd, a tradition we've been doing in Tokyo for years. The photo was taken by Nacho Martínez (PhotoArt), and you'll find more Barcelona photos on this Flickr page (with more Vol. 20 photos soon to come).
MARCH 12, 2014
You may have seen us often share a big crowd shot from our PechaKucha Nights here in Tokyo with everyone raising their hands -- everyone also screams "banzai" (loosely translates as "hurrah") as the shot is taken. We loved seeing that same shot get taken at Barcelona's Vol. 18, held last week. Below, a group shot of the presenters, as well as a larger version of the crowd shot -- both photos were taken by Nacho Martínez (PhotoArt).

Light painting isn't a new art form by any stretch, but recently it's been revitalized and enhanced by the DIY community. In today's edition of Presentation of the Day, we see the extent to which the medium has grown.
In his presentation (from PKN Barcelona Vol. 10) Mateusz Staniewski enlightens us on the finer details of the photographic art. The techniques he goes into include light-stenciling, freezing, and painting; when combining these methods the results are both literally and figuratively luminous. There's much more to be seen than said here, so for further illumination check out the full presentation.

Presentations Robert Fishbone had an amazing experience taking part in Artsweek -- like learning how Bobby McFerrin does his vocal gymnastics -- and in this lively presentation (from PKN Salt Lake City Vol. 8), you'll get to experience part of it too. Rafi Ghanaghounian of Keep Six Exhibits shares his fun project called "Blocks," Toronto's largest scavenger hunt. Originally, the project was just between him and his son, but after doing this presentation (from PKN Toronto Vol. 14), he is now turning into an actual public event. Posters Barcelona always comes up with great posters for its events, and here's another great example -- designed by LoSiento -- for the city's upcoming Vol. 17. You'll of course find more great posters on our Tumblr Blog. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM4TXMBGLdY Video PKN Orlando organizer Eddie Selover has been doing an amazing job with his series -- to a point that he was awarded a Silver Brick -- and earlier this month he participated in a TEDx event in Orlando, and spoke about his experience with PechaKucha, in a talk entitled "How PechaKucha Changed My Life." Calendar Here's what's on tonight (October 30): PKN Eureka (Montana) Vol. 1, PKN Grand Rapids Vol. 5, PKN Buenos Aires Vol. 27, and PKN Pittsfield Vol. 4. Tomorrow night we celebrate Tokyo Designers Week with our big PKN -- aka PKN Tokyo Vol. 96 -- at the Meiji-Jingu Gaien grounds. You'll also find these three events: PKN Derby Vol. 7, PKN Mikkeli Vol. 1, and PKN Montevideo Vol. 8.

Unconventional Formwork, What a Creative Director Does, and a Video from Barcelona
Presentations Daniel Silverman is an architect, and in his presentation (from PKN Shenzhen Vol. 11) he shares a few projects that use unconventional materials for the formwork aspect of construction. Mad Men are dead. Creative directors do not just get to go to parties nowadays, but as is revealed in this presentation (in Spanish, from PKN Barcelona Vol. 14) by Rafa Bonichon, they have to be able to distinguish between what is bullshit and what is a good idea. Posters Our last addition to the Tumblr blog before the weekend is the poster you see above, for Sao Paulo's Vol. 11, which is happening tonight. It was illustrated by João Lavieri, who will also be a presenter at the event. Video The following video is for a PKN that happened in Barcelona last year (its Vol. 12), but we hadn't seen it yet, and we loved it so much that we played it at our Vol. 95 here in Tokyo this past Wednesday. Calendar Time to take a look at what the weekend has in store, starting with a very busy Friday night: PKN Salzburg Vol. 13, PKN Des Moines Vol. 11, PKN Gainesville Vol. 5, PKN Sao PauloVol. 11, PKN Wellington Vol. 16, PKN Toledo Vol. 3, PKN San Francisco Vol. 52, PKN Delhi Vol. 12, and PKN Geneva Vol. 9. Saturday brings PKN Oulu Vol. 18 and PKN Banja Luka Vol. 6, and then on Sunday we have PKN Plzen Vol. 2.
AUGUST 07, 2012
In this presentation (from PKN Dunsborough Vol. 4), Dianne Parker talks about her passion project: an upcoming journey to volunteer with the Tabitha Foundation in Cambodia to build much needed homes for displaced families. Benjamin Julve has been documenting PechaKucha Nights in Barcelona since the series' inception in 2008. This is a special "behind the scenes" presentation (in Spanish, from PKN Barcelona Vol. 14) that includes just a few of the hundreds of photos he has taken so far.
JULY 24, 2012
Presentations In this presentation (from PKN Genoa Vol. 1), Gregory Melitonov talks about his SOTTO project, that incorporates typical Italian laundry lines and t-shirts to send a message to the community at large. The Bike Kitchen is more than just a self-help bike garage where you can bring your bike and learn how to repair it yourself. As you'll learn in this presentation (in German, from PKN Augsburg Vol. 1) by Stefan Sohnle, the Bike Kitchen is in fact just like a family. Posters We've just added quite a few posters to the Tumblr blog, and so today instead of just highlighting one, we'll include a few of them in our daily post. First up, above, is the poster for tonight's PKN Rockford Vol. 2. Also uploaded today are the following (some of which you'll find below): PKN Oaxaca Vol. 2 and Vol. 7, PKN Cancun Vol. 1, PKN Panama Vol. 3, PKN Wakefield Vol. 2 and Vol. 4, PKN Barcelona Vol. 12, PKN Dnipropetrovsk Vol. 2, and PKN Taos Vol. 2. Calendar There are two events on tap for tonight (July 24): PKN Halifax Vol. 11 and the previously mentioned PKN Rockford Vol. 2. Tomorrow is a busy night, and on top of our PKN Tokyo Vol. 94 (our last PKN of the summer), you can look for the following events: PKN Derby Vol. 6, PKN Znojmo Vol. 1, PKN Helena Vol. 2, and PKN Providence Vol. 40.

Nostalgic for Kyiv, the Thought Structure of the All, and 20th Century PechaKucha
Presentations Tatiana Guryeva's presentation (in Ukrainian, from PKN Kyiv Vol. 7) is based on recollections of her childhood. You'll see the Kyiv of the 70s and 80s, or at least how it has remained in her memory, as well as Pechersk, the area where she grew up, and Podol, the area where she currently lives.
Art’s task is to Save the Soul of Mankind, and that anything less is a dithering while Rome burns. Because if the Artist, who are self-selected to be able to journey into the other... if the Artist cannot find the way, then the Way cannot be Found.
Adopting this Terence McKenna quote as his mantra and accidentally stumbling into what he calls "Thought Structure" through his art, blakeArt® (aka Matt Blake), with all his might and good intent, attempts to do just that: find a way for All. We are all "One" in the "Same," and he expands on that idea in this presentation (from PKN Chicago Vol. 18). Posters New on the Tumblr blog today are posters for PKN Guimaraes Vol. 3 (pictured above), PKN Springfield, Ohio Vol. 5, and PKN Cape Town Vol. 19. We've also added a few posters and flyers from PKN Buenos Aires that we hadn't come across in the past, including the flyer you see above, for the city's Vol. 21. PKN Buenos Aires Vol. 25 happens tonight. Photos and video We have a few photo galleries to share today, including from the recent PKN Barcelona Vol. 16, which is what you see above. After the link, you'll also find a great video round-up from the event -- we sure love that "20th Century Fox" intro done PK-style.
Calendar Tonight (June 26) your PKN satisfaction will come from the following two events: PKN Amersfoort Vol. 7 and the previously mentioned PKN Buenos Aires Vol. 25. Tomorrow, on top of PKN Tokyo Vol. 93, you'll find PKN Kingston Vol. 3 and PKN Providence Vol. 39.
