SEPTEMBER 13, 2012
Presentations Vikram Jammula sure loves photography, and in his presentation (from PKN Hyderabad Vol. 9) -- featuring some fantastic visuals -- he hopes to make us all understand why. This presentation (in German, from PKN Augsburg Vol. 1) is made up of random selections, forcing Dominic Antritter to improvise to images he has never seen. The slides are all strange and funny -- and real -- eBay auctions that needed some explaining. Posters Today's addition to the Tumblr blog is a poster for Osijek's upcoming Vol. 1, set for October 5 -- you'll find the presenters listed with links on the official event page. Photos We were big fans of the poster for PKN Santiago Vol. 3, and now have a photo gallery [Flickr] to share from the event itself. Calendar Here's what to look for tonight (September 13): PKN Ottawa Vol. 6, PKN Burlington Vol. 8,PKN Perth Vol. 10, PKN Bordeaux Vol. 8, and a special edition PK event in Amsterdam at the Stedelijk Museum. Tomorrow, we have the following: PKN Brighton Vol. 16, PKN Kuching Vol. 1, PKN San Jose Vol. 8, PKN Cadiz Vol. 1, PKN Denver Vol. 14, and PKN St. Petersburg Vol. 22.
AUGUST 09, 2012
For this presentation (from PKN Pittsfield Vol. 1), let David Hyde take you on a tongue-in-cheek comparative tour of the US and the UK -- expect stereotypes galore, and a good laugh. Redesigna is a collaboration of different projects in Augsburg -- each of these projects focuses on alternative living. This presentation (in German, from PKN Augsburg Vol. 1) shows a variety of recycled and upcycled projects created by Doris Leitner.
JULY 24, 2012
Presentations In this presentation (from PKN Genoa Vol. 1), Gregory Melitonov talks about his SOTTO project, that incorporates typical Italian laundry lines and t-shirts to send a message to the community at large. The Bike Kitchen is more than just a self-help bike garage where you can bring your bike and learn how to repair it yourself. As you'll learn in this presentation (in German, from PKN Augsburg Vol. 1) by Stefan Sohnle, the Bike Kitchen is in fact just like a family. Posters We've just added quite a few posters to the Tumblr blog, and so today instead of just highlighting one, we'll include a few of them in our daily post. First up, above, is the poster for tonight's PKN Rockford Vol. 2. Also uploaded today are the following (some of which you'll find below): PKN Oaxaca Vol. 2 and Vol. 7, PKN Cancun Vol. 1, PKN Panama Vol. 3, PKN Wakefield Vol. 2 and Vol. 4, PKN Barcelona Vol. 12, PKN Dnipropetrovsk Vol. 2, and PKN Taos Vol. 2. Turning Air Into Water, Surfboard/Scene Design, and the Carrot Pavillion
Presentations Richard Groden is one of the founders of Island Sky, and in his presentation (from PKN Miami Vol. 15), he talks about its project to extract water from air and turn it into pure drinking water for areas where water is scarce or contaminated. Their goal is not just to produce drinkable water, but also to educate people on the important of sustainability in developing countries. Martín Várbaro is a plastic material artist who started his career by designing surfboards in Argentina, and later in more Latin American countries, including Peru and Brazil. As this presentation (in Spanish, from PKN Mar Del Plata Vol. 2) reveals, he also works as a scene decorator for theaters, museums, and public centers, and is now producing work in South America and Europe. Posters We have no new posters to share on the Tumblr blog today, but that gives us a chance to highlight the beach-friendly poster from last week's PKN Las Palmas Vol. 7. Photos and report We've got galleries for two firsts to share (in Castellon and Augsburg), but let us also point you to this blog post from Core77 about a recent PechaKucha event in London, part of the International Conference on Designing Food and Designing for Food. It was produced by PKN Brussels organizer Alok Nandi, and the photo above reveals the intriguing "Carrot Pavillion."
Calendar We're kicking off the week with the re-start of the PKN series in Bangkok, with the city's Vol. 5 happening tonight (July 9). Tomorrow, there's one event on tap in the form of PKN Huancayo Vol. 10.
