Presentations Clay Bennett is a political cartoonist who left Alabama for Massachusetts, only to find himself returning to his Southern roots by way of a move to Tennessee, and more specifically, Chattanooga. He tells his story in his presentation (from PKN Chattanooga Vol. 10), highlighting each part with with a selection of his cartoons. Eva Štybrava is the founder of a group of painters called the Saint Thomas Five. Her presentation (in Czech, from PKN Plzen Vol. 1) offers up a selection of their works, as well as revealing their process. Posters We have three new posters on the Tumblr blog today, starting with the one you see above, for this month's PKN Bratislava Vol. 20. You'll also find the posters for PKN Wellington Vol. 15 and PKN Bangor, Maine Vol. 6. Photos and event news Here's a photo gallery [Facebook] for the recent PKN Moscow Vol. 21 -- above, a few shots that give a peek at what the event, held outdoors, looked like. Next week (on September 13), PKN Amsterdam will be hosting a special event at the Stedelijk Museum, under the canopy of the new building, as pictured below. You'll find more details, as well as the full list of presenters with links, on the official event page. Calendar Here's what you'll find on the agenda for tonight (September 4): PKN Chicago Vol. 23, PKN Williamsburg Vol. 2, and PKN Cap Town Vol. 20. Tomorrow, we have PKN Roanoke Vol. 3 and PKN Trnava Vol. 5.
JULY 31, 2012
Presentations In this presentation (from PKN Bangor Vol. 4), Alan Comeau is joined on stage with the cast and crew of the film The Road Back: Alan Comeau, Acadia Hospital communications officer and producer of the film; Faith Bishop, Hermon High School student and screenwriter/director of the film; Natalie Johnson, Hermon High School student and “Allie” in the film; and Lucas Holmes, Hampden Academy student and musician/composer for the film. There are many things to see and do in Panamá, and one of them is to check out the sea turtles. Carla Ortiz and Franklyn Arana talk (in Spanish, from PKN Panama Vol. 9) about a foundation that rescues turtle eggs and also helps save those who were recently born. Here's a special presentation, "Listen With Your Eyes," that was done at Amsterdam's recent PKN Vol. 22, which we share in video form for reasons you'll soon see. Posters Today's addition to the Tumblr blog is the poster for New Haven's upcoming -- and hopefully "lucky" -- Vol. 13, set for August 29. Calendar Today (July 31) we have PKN Dnipropetrovsk Vol. 2, and tomorrow we kick off August with the following two events: PKN Glasgow Vol. 9 and PKN Azores Vol. 3.
JULY 17, 2012
Presentations For nearly 8 years Steve Jaros has been lucky enough to be a working writer in the video games industry. Most recently he was nominated for best writing at the Game Developers Choice Awards for his work on the game Saints Row: The Third. Naturally, he lost to Portal 2. In this presentation (from PKN Champaign-Urbana Vol. 9), Steve shares some of his guilty pleasures. Akio Aoki (Miru) covers (in Japanese, from PKN Tokyo Vol. 93) a few of his projects and products, and also shares some of the exhibitions that have featured his work. Posters We kick off the week with a few new posters on our Tumblr blog. Covered are the following events: PKN Halifax Vol. 11, PKN Memphis Vol. 3, PKN London Vol. 8, and PKN Shenzhen Vol. 11, pictured above. Photos and video We have one new gallery of photos [Facebook] to share with you today, from last week's PKN Amsterdam Vol. 22. Pictured above, a look at the warehouse-like venue. When we approve a new PKN series, we ask the new organizer (or team) to send us a greeting video (PK founders Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham do the same for the city's first event). Here's the wonderful video from the organizers of PKN Osijek. Links Today's links include a few tips on making a PechaKucha presentation, and some nice coverage of Tulsa's recent first PKN.

Calendar It's going to be a slow week -- summer has officially hit -- but don't let that stop you from catching the events that are being held, like tonight's (July 17) PKN Jacksonville Vol. 20.

Amsterdam held its Inspire Japan event last night, and one of the presenters (see the full list here) was art director and illustrator Luis Mendo, who just so happens to be the designer of the upcoming Inspire Japan ebook -- you can pre-buy it on our Inspire Japan site, with all proceeds going to reconstruction efforts. During the PKN, he also drew "live" what he was seeing -- see photos above -- and by the end of the night it was part of a lottery to collect donations. Update: And here's a better look at the drawing.
JANUARY 28, 2011
Tjeerd Braat was a presenter at this month's PechaKucha Night in Amsterdam Vol. 16, and his presentation has popped up on YouTube, and it's embedded in this post. You can find the full list of presenters with links from that edition on the official PKN Amsterdam Vol. 16 event page.

The next PechaKucha Night in Amsterdam (Vol. 12) is set to happen January 20 -- that would be in the far, far future of 2010 -- with Meral Das aka Blackbird Badger set to create the musical/visual accompaniments throughout the evening. Pictured above is a photo taken by Raphael Rebach at the previous edition (Vol. 11), and very appropriately titled "Hypnotized."

The Flying Grass Carpet in Budapest
PechaKucha Night in Budapest Vol. 12 was held back in May, and you may remember that at the time we mentioned that PKN Amsterdam organizers Bart Cardinaal and Nadine Roos' "Flying Grass Carpet" was going to make an appearance. Photos from the event have finally popped up, and above you can see an amazing photo that showcases not only the stunning venue (at the Museum of Applied Arts), but the carpet as well.

The Flying Grass Carpet Gets Nominated
We've covered PechaKucha Night in Amsterdam organizers Bart Cardinaal and Nadine Roos' "Flying Grass Carpet" before, but we've very happy to note that the project has been nominated for the Dutch Design Awards. The process now involves public voting, which you can do by going to this page of the competition's site. For more on the project, make sure to visit the official "Flying Grass Carpet" site.

PKN Goes to Space
We all know that PechaKucha Nights worldwide boast an amazing wide range of presenters, but we're pretty sure that yesterday in Amsterdam was the first PKN to have a presentation given by an astronaut, two even: Johannes Sterka and Elias Tieleman.
You can see more photos from PKN Amsterdam Vol. 10 in this Flickr photoset.
